All right then, I wrote down the
names of every follower who commented, assigned each a number, then used Random.org to generate the winning numbers,

Okay, so now that I’ve
accomplished my goal and have published my debut novel, I find myself worrying
more than I ever thought I would. Sure,
I told myself it really didn’t matter how well my book sold. I just wanted to get it out there. But yeah, it kinda doesn’t work that way, at
least, not in my mind.
I want people to read it. And I want those who do to love it, or at
least like it, even just a little bit.
But more than anything, I want readers to rate/review it on Amazon and Goodreads. So now I have a whole new slew of things to
worry about: Is it selling, will they
like it, and will they spread the word?
It’s really way too early in the game for me to be obsessing over these
things. It’s a marathon, not a
sprint. Still, it’s there. *sigh*
But oooh, look! I have 499 GFC followers!
Maybe I’ll do another ebook giveaway once I
reach 500.
Any suggestions on how to do
that one?
I'm sure within a few hours you'll have five hundred!
ReplyDeleteIt was more exciting seeing my name in your book than on the covers of mine. (Okay, I was excited for the first one.) But that you would allow me to read it early and contribute my very short thoughts is a great honor. And I bet your book sells a heck of a lot better than either of mine!

Whatever way you publish, all authors worry about their book selling. I'm sure yours will do fine.

It takes time to build momentum! Give yourself a chance. You wrote an amazing book and people will see that. But that said, I too will totally obsess come December! LOL. Congrats to the giveaway winners! Yay!

ReplyDeleteI can't even imagine (yet) what it's like to have a novel out there. The stress! But you've got some great blurbs from other authors, and lots of friends spreading the word, so hang in there.
Sales will crank up, we'll spread the word.

It is a marathon. Don't compare yourself to anyone else. There's no real science as to what goes viral and what doesn't. Keep publishing and your odds of finding the lightning go up. I'll keep reading. :)

Making my way through the IWSG list. I've gotten sort of obsessed with it today. I don't even know how many I've done, but I'm having a blast! I usually begin at the bottom and work up for a day or two. Glad I made it to yours. :) Best of luck to you with your marketing!!

ReplyDeleteBoy, do I agree with your marathon v sprint idea... I swear when I heard (years ago) that it took some writers three years to write a book, I was like, "are ye mad?"
But, yup, here I am three years later, just about to finish WIP#1 and now you say I have to start worrying about people *reading* it and *reviewing* it.... ah yai yai...
