Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

Oh what a day,
A day it is,
A day of fun,
Of zip & fizz!
Let's celebrate,
The doc was born.
No Mr. Geisel,
Nor Theodor.

It's Dr. Seuss,
To me and you,
To Horton
And to every Who.

He brought his pal,
A giant cat,
A cat who wears
A tall striped hat.

But that's not all we have,
look here.
There's red fish blue fish
Everywhere!

He brought another
In a box.
Oh look, oh look,
A fox in socks!
And who's that with
The fox you say?
He's green and mean,
but what the hay.

He's not so bad
To have in a pinch.
I kind of like
That old mean Grinch.

He brought with him
Green eggs and ham,
And one more chap
Named Sam I am.

The gang's all here,
Let's celebrate,
For Dr. Seuss
Turns one-oh-eight!

I know I'm not much of a poet, but any excuse to
have this much fun is worth the embarrassment.

Thank you, Jennee Thompson, for reminding me how much I love Dr. Seuss!

Excellent tribute! And I don't think I've ever seen a picture of him.

I don't think I ever liked Dr. Seuss all that much. I think I liked "The Lorax" a little bit and the Grinch XMas special on TV, but that was about it.

Yay! Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss. I feel the need to go find a tall striped hat to wear for the rest of the day now. :))

One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish was my favourite book when I was a kid. I think I could probably still recite all of it! I still find the huge ugly thing stoppered in a bottle hilarious - remember: Look what we found in the park
In the Dark
We'll take him home, we'll call him Clark.
He will live at our house
He will grow and grow.
Will our mother like this?
We don't know.

No creature ever looked less like a 'Clark'. I'm laughing just thinking about it!

Thanks for a great post - it's brought back happy memories!

I like this post! I do indeed!
It was sweet, and fun to read.

All his books, I've so loved to share
now with my granddaughter, when she is there
at our house, sleeping over, snuggled in bed.
But oh, the rhymes -- they get stuck in my head!

And for days and days and days after,
I'll make others explode in laughter,
or groan and want to kick my caboose,
'cause I just can't stop talking like Dr. Seuss!

This was a great post, my dear Nancy!
Just right! (not too plain, not too fancy)
You're so sweet -- you've warmed my heart;
And to share the smile, I hope I've done my part.

;^)

Not only did I love your poem, but the picture brought me right back to childhood and reading Dr. Seuss when I was supposed to be taking a nap.

New follower. An excellent tribute to Dr. Seuss-- I suck at poetry so I don't think I would have been able to write something even half as good. Looking forward to reading more of your posts!
