Oh, I love a good blogfest, and today, Alex J. Cavanaugh is hosting a good one.
One blogfest, four favorites!
List your favorite genre of:
Movie
Music
Books
And a guilty pleasure genre from any of the three categories!
This should be easy. First, in the movie category, my favorite genre is the action thriller! But it has to be smart. I’m not interested in dumbed-down macho action flicks. I want films like Primal Fear, A Perfect Murder, Se7en, and Silence of the Lambs.
Music is a bit tougher as I like so many genres, but alternative rock is absolute my favorite. This is a hazy category and includes elements of metal and grunge. Think: Three Days Grace, Alice In Chains, Seether, Staind, and Smile Empty Soul.
Books are probably the easiest for me. While I do read some YA, my favorite go-to genre is definitely the adult psychological thriller. Think: Creep by Jennifer Hillier, Iron House by John Hart, Room by Emma Donoghue, and The Shining by Stephen King.
Okay, now for a guilty pleasure from any of these categories. Hmm, this one is much harder. I think I’ll go for films and the British romantic comedy. Think: Sliding Doors, Love Actually, Nothing Hill, Four Weddings and a Funeral, and Shakespeare in Love.
What are your favorites?
You're not the only one to pick alternative rock today. Or romantic comedies. Yeah, I'm a sucker.
ReplyDeleteThanks for participating in my blogfest!
I love a good Psychological Thriller too! Creep is a great book!
ReplyDeleteAwesome choices! I started reading Creep, but it's on my iPod Touch, and I stopped reading it (I'd only just started it) because I was flying on a plane and didn't want to NOT be reading for the time we have to put electronic devices away. But then I got distracted by another book and I forgot all about Creep. I'll have to finish reading it after I finish my current book. Hopefully I don't forget, but I did want to read it. The premise is so, well, creepy.
ReplyDeleteLove you choice in music. Creep is also a good book!
ReplyDeleteLove thrillers but fantasy and dystopian are my favorite genres.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I don't like to much the mentioned British romantic comedies, especially with Hugh Grant. It's strange to me a little bit, because I usualy like the British movies and the British comedies as well, but romantic factor of it isn't my genre.
ReplyDeleteHah! Your guilty pleasure movies are some of my favorite movies of all time!
ReplyDeleteI like alternative rock as well and just saw Shakespeare in Love over the weekend on TV. Excellent movie!
ReplyDeletenever ever want to see primal fear again... still creeps me out... norton is so underrated.

Yeah, I can go with a good psycho-thriller, but not too often. And British romantic comedy? Even my husband likes some of it!
ReplyDeleteDef BRITISH romantic comedies... love me a good British accent <3
ReplyDeleteI like alternative rock. My best friend lived in Seattle during its heyday and there were so many good bands that never made it.
ReplyDeleteWow, cool choices, Nancy!
ReplyDeleteAlice in Chains was one of my favorite harder-edged grunge bands.
And my favorite movie of all time is Monty Python and the Holy Grail, but while it's British and a comedy, it does fall a bit short in the romantic area. ;^)
I confess I watch only a few action thrillers ... they scare the hell out of me!! lol
ReplyDelete<3 Notting Hill <3
great picks! and dont forget bridget jones! colin firth is my guilty pleasure!
ReplyDeleteI'm so not surprised by your picks, Nancy. They fit you. Good choices.
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot in common - loved Primal Fear. Literally gave me goosebumps. Those British movies you mentioned are among my favorites. Love Actually is bloody brilliant. I've seen it overt 50 times. It's just so chock full of funny. Nice to meet you! My blogfest entry is:
ReplyDeleteTina @ Life is Good
British rom-com's are some of my favorites. I really need to get over to England someday!
ReplyDeleteCreep is a great novel! Love all of these.
ReplyDeleteI chose Romantic Comedies as my favorite for movies but now that you mention it, I am partial to the British ones.
ReplyDeleteCREEP was the first adult psychological thriller I've ever read. THE MISTAKEN was the second. Great streak I've got going, right? ;)
ReplyDeleteBritish films was my special mention (I couldn't tie myself down to just one genre) - I love that you mentioned them, and some of my fave films ever - Sliding Doors, an amazing film!
ReplyDeleteSometimes the British just do movies so much better than Americans. I love BBC!
ReplyDeleteAllison (Geek Banter)
Hey, Silence of the Lambs is a great book and a great movie!
ReplyDeletePrimal Fear is a classic.
ReplyDeleteNot just a rom com, but British rom com. I admit to liking the British versions of rom coms better too.
ReplyDeleteI liked Sliding Doors and Primal Fear- I guess we both have quite a wide range when it comes to our interests.
ReplyDeleteOoo. Your choice of music surprised me. And I agree on the movies. I like it when they're intellectually stimulating. ;)
ReplyDeleteParticipant #125
Neat list..I liked Silence of the Lamb
ReplyDeleteSliding Doors is a really excellent movie, and I just love Love Actually. I'm an alternative gal, too.
ReplyDeleteHannibal Lecter is the creepiest villain ever, but I can't resist watching him. The brain eating scene...how do you top that? haha
ReplyDeleteI love British romcom. Love Actually is one of my all time favorite movies. I can't watch anything that has brain eating, naw, I'm way to fainthearted for that. :) Ditto for books. I need to read something light.
ReplyDeleteSimilar music taste though.
This was a fun Blogfest. I liked hopping around and seeing the different taste.
I like British Romantic Comedies too...think Hugh Grant. I like some psychological thrillers too and of course alternative music. Good choices!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy action thrillers every once in awhile despite I rarely see them. I love the action sequences and adrenaline suspense...it's gotta keep you on the edge of your seat to make it worthwhile! :)
ReplyDeleteOhhhh SEVEN. I haven't thought of that movie in ages. Creepy, but sooo good!
ReplyDeleteYahhy another fan of Love Actually :) and I *really* like your book choices, too :)
ReplyDeleteYay for alt rock! Great post!
ReplyDeleteI love these lists! We like so many of the same things.

ReplyDeleteI love all your answers, and share your passions for each of these genres! :)
ReplyDeleteHugh Grant is always a guilty pleasure! Love the list. I agree with you about the action movies with a brain concept. Loved Primal Fear. Such a fun blogfest!
ReplyDeleteWho doesn't love an adventure? And British comedy too! Yes, I can relate to these:)
ReplyDeleteGreat choices. :) I love a good psychological thriller, too.
ReplyDeleteHi, Nancy. I'm so drawn to your blog. I wonder what it is? ;) Ok, it's the flames we share...
ReplyDeleteI love the Jennifer Hillier shout-out! That girl is awesome! I just finished her latest last month and loved it, too.
I completely agree with the films you mentioned, except one... I'll never forgive Shakespeare In Love for beating Saving Private Ryan for best film that year. Yeah, I know. I hold grudges forever!
Have a great week!

Hi, Nancy,
ReplyDeletedropping by for the blogfest. Nice to meet you. New follower.
Some fascinating choices. Oooo. The Shining. Read it in college. I will never forget it. Eerie and wonderful. The movie was a big disappointment to me, although Nicholson was great.
I have visite dozens of blogs so far and you are only the second chick to post Rom/Com for your guilty pleasure. It was mine too. I found more dudes listing it than anything else. LOL.
Now I really need to see sliding doors again! Love your choices :)
ReplyDeleteI'm also an Alt-rock girl. I also really enjoy British romcoms, even more than their American cousins. The British ones just don't feel so contrived.
ReplyDeleteThose are all great choices. I can always listen to some classic Alice in Chains, especially acoustic.
ReplyDeleteI get kind of confused with blog hops so I participate in my own unique little way. This time I picked a movie and talked about the characters. Always love coming to visit. Hope all is well Nancy!
ReplyDeleteHey Nancy! You definately have some excellent choices! I loved Seven (my computer can't make that weird symbol sign)..and Love, Actually was excellent! I forgot all about that one when I was making my list.
ReplyDeleteGood choices. I've been wanting to read room, but haven't got my hands on it yet.
ReplyDeleteOh, I've been meaning to read CREEP for eons. Might finally get down to it one of these days.
